Eczema: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment
A chronic skin disorder, eczema—also called atopic dermatitis—causes inflammation, redness, itching, and dryness. This prevalent dermatological condition affects people of all ages, including young toddlers and infants. While the exact cause of eczema remains unknown, a combination of environmental and genetic factors is believed to trigger it. Those with a family history of hay fever, asthma, or allergies are more likely to have eczema.
Dry, scaly patches, severe itching, swelling, and skin thickening define eczema symptoms. In severe cases, the skin could get inflamed, haemorrhaged, or broken. Typical causes are allergies, strong soaps, low temperatures, stress, and some meals.
Though eczema cannot be permanently cured, therapy concentrates on controlling symptoms. Regular moisturising, mild cleaning, and avoiding recognised triggers help prevent flare-ups. Severe instances may call for prescription topical corticosteroids, antihistamines, and immunosuppressants. Still another choice for resistant eczema is phototherapy.
The situation can be much better if one keeps a healthy lifestyle, controls stress, and follows a skincare schedule. Long-term management requires a personalised treatment plan derived from seeing a dermatologist.
