Large Intestine (Colon) Conditions
By absorbing water and building stool, the colon—the large intestine—plays a vital part in digesting. Many diseases can compromise its ability, which causes discomfort and medical problems.
Commonly causing stomach pain, bloating, and irregular bowel motions is irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Stress, nutrition, or hormonal changes can all set it off. Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, among other inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), cause persistent inflammation and diarrhoea, as well as weight loss.
Another major illness is colorectal cancer, usually resulting from colonic polyps. Early discovery made possible by colonoscopies enhances the results of treatment. Caused by the inflammation of tiny colonic pouches, diverticulitis causes pain and infection.
Other conditions include colonic polyps, which over time may turn malignant, and constipation, usually brought on by poor fibre intake and dehydration. Additionally, damaging the colon and producing extreme diarrhoea are infections such as Clostridium difficile (C. diff).
Maintaining gut health with a balanced diet high in fibre, water, and probiotics helps prevent bowel problems. Effective management and treatment of many disorders depend much on routine physician visits and early intervention.
