Paediatric Orthopaedic
Paediatric orthopaedic diseases are musculoskeletal disorders that affect children, including congenital abnormalities, developmental, and traumatic injuries. Because children's bones are still growing, their disorders frequently necessitate specialised care to guarantee optimal development and function.
Common paediatric orthopaedic diseases include clubfoot, a condition in which a baby's foot is twisted out of shape; developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), a condition in which the hip joint is wrongly formed; and scoliosis, a sideways curvature of the spine. Other abnormalities seen in early children include flatfoot, bowlegs, and knock knees, which may resolve naturally or require medical intervention.
Traumatic injuries, including fractures, growth plate injuries, and sports-related illnesses such as Osgood-Schlatter disease, are all common. Septic arthritis and osteomyelitis are two infections that can have a serious impact on bone health and necessitate immediate treatment. Some children may acquire neurological diseases such as cerebral palsy, which affect muscle and bone development.
We use physical examinations, imaging studies, and, in rare situations, genetic assessments to make the diagnosis. Treatment options range from observation and physical therapy to bracing, casts, or surgery in extreme cases. Early detection and intervention are critical for maintaining optimal mobility, avoiding problems, and supporting a child's healthy musculoskeletal development.
